In March, CCAB Certification emailed all CCABs with some proposed changes to the renewal requirements. A heartfelt thank you to everyone that let us know their thoughts, both in support of the proposals and any concerns, comments and feedback you had.
The renewals proposal received overwhelming support, with 90% of respondents in favour of this plan. The committee looked at each comment which raised concerns before making a final decision.
One point raised in the feedback was that without a “consulting” and “non-consulting” register, it would be less clear for caregivers trying to use the website to find a CCAB to help them, who was currently available. As a result of this, we will be updating the list on the website with a “Currently accepting referrals” check box for each listed CCAB. We will assume a default that everyone would like this checked, so please let us know if you are not currently taking referrals and we will uncheck this box for your listing.
Decision regarding CCAB renewals:
CCABs will no longer be required to submit a case log or to state that have seen a certain number of cases. They will be expected to maintain reflective CPD (rules for this are unchanged, and can be found here), pay their membership fee and abide by the CCAB Code of Conduct. The precedent for this option has been set by the RCVS in their management of veterinary surgeons renewing their MRCVS. There will therefore be no separation of the “consulting” vs “non-consulting” registers, with one register of current CCABs listed instead. The “retired” register will remain active for those wishing not to maintain their CPD. Listed, current, CCABs will have a check box to confirm if they are “Currently accepting referrals”, the status of which can be changed by emailing a request to info@ccab.uk. We will be updating the website over the next two weeks with this information.
